Sympathetic twist - mind/body connection

Sympathetic twist

Ever heard of “fight or flight” syndrome or perhaps the “Bowling Ball” syndrome? It is a common problem where the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) due to our own life experiences can push us into sympathetic- on/parasympathetic-off. If you are in this mode you probably don’t sleep well, have poor digestion, mood swings, sensitive to loud noises, headaches, jaw pain, nasal congestion etc. In a chronic state this syndrome can put the body into a twisted profile so our non-dominant side will usually face the danger in the “enguard” position whereby the flexors are engaged and extensors are supressed. Does this sound familiar?

In his books Healing is Voltage-the handbook and Cancer’s On/Off Switches Polarity (Amazon), Dr. Tennant discusses Sympathetic twist at great length and why it is important to turn on the parasympathetic nervous system in order to control pain and improve health.

All of our muscles are portable battery packs that need recharging. They charge when they contract and relax. When one is in sympathetic on, the muscles do neither and begin to lose their ability to keep the voltages up in out organ systems,  which can eventually can lead to chronic pain and health issues. Dr Tennant calls this the Bowling Ball syndrome because the head is approximately with weight of a bowling ball. If we are in sympathetic on (enguard posture), the head will be tipped to one side, the shoulders and hips tilted as well. Our body is meant to be balanced under our head, if it is not there will be a constant tension throughout the body to compensate for this imbalance. So how do we correct this sympathetic twist/bowling ball syndrome?

Fight or Flight

Dr. Tennant uses the analogy of how the piece of stone that is inserted in the top of an arch is called the keystone. Because of its shape, the keystone allows the arch to stay standing by causing the blocks in the arch to push against each other. The sphenoid bone, is the keystone for our scull. The position of the sphenoid is important because it dictates the position of all of the other bones in the scull. This can move the center of gravity of the head resulting in the body’s shift into sympathetic twist with compensatory changes down the spine, hips and legs. The brain and sacrum are connected by the Dura and forms a closed hydraulic system called the Cranio Sacral pump. Correcting the position of the sphenoid is important as it opens up this pump. This is widely known as Cranio Sacral therapy (Becker/Upledger)

So how can we reset the sphenoid and ANS? There are several manual ways to do this, but one simple procedure was to stimulate a point on each side of the neck between the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and trapezius muscles half way between the ear lobe and shoulder. That point accesses the deep cranial nerve that controls the parasympathetic nervous system. This therapy with the Biomodulator also puts voltage into the trapezius muscle which was thought to cause it to contact and rotate the occipital bone to help to correct the sphenoid.

Dr. Tennant studied this further and found the easiest and most efficient way to reset the ANS, was to treat the bilateral occipital Gall Bladder 20points. These 2 points access the gall bladder circuit responsible for emotions and digestion as well as the insertion of the SCM. He found this procedure to be as effective as treating the neck as it put voltage into the cranial nerve as well . He then finishes by treating the main conduit down our spine called the governing vessel meridian. Treating the para-spinal back muscles puts voltage into autonomic ganglia that is wired to each of our organs.

With this correction, clients usually notice immediate changes in the tipping of the head. Shoulders and hips will correct in 12-24 hours. Once you are in parasympathetic-on the body’s flexors relax and extensors engage. Sleep, digestion improve and general body pain is reduced. Now one can continue treat each of the lingering pain and/or health issues with the Biomodulator technology.

Why is voltage so important for us to live a healthy pain free lifestyle?

Voltage therapy with the Tennant BiomodulatorWhen talking about pain management, I often refer to energy medicine as a modality to aid in the healing process. We require stored energy in the body for daily living. This energy comes through our water, food, nutrition and exercise. If we become ill or are in chronic pain, a lot of our body’s energy is directed toward our natural healing systems. Sometimes our bodies run out of this energy and that can lead to chronic pain or disease.

Dr. Jerry Tennant MD, made a statement in a presentation that resonated with me the first time I heard it. “Chronic disease and pain only occurs when the body loses the voltage it needs to make new cells that work.”

The traditional means of treatment (drugs, medications etc.) plus many of the things that we eat and drink can rob us of voltage. However with the proper intake of alkaline water, good nutrition and energy medicine we can bring our bodies back into balance energetically, helping us achieve the pain free healthy lifestyle we've always wanted.

After working with microcurrent modalities for many years, I have experienced firsthand how remarkable this subtle energy helps to accelerate the healing process. I believe it is important for everyone to understand that our body is portable electronic device and uses electrons or voltage in order to function. These Blogs are intended to help us understand why voltage and electrons are so important for us to be well.

A good starting point for anyone who wants to learn how the body works is to read a book entitled Healing is Voltage the Handbook by Dr. Jerry Tennant. In his book Dr. Tennant discusses energy medicine, the importance of alkaline water, pH of the body, nutrition, dental etc. He explains, in a very easy to understand way, why all of these are necessary for us to be healthy and well.

Dr Tennant also teaches us how to be good electricians of the body and how to make it work better. Understanding his refreshingly honest medical paradigm and passing it forward to as many people as possible, has been his mission for the past 15 years.

Energy Medicine for Good Health!

Energy Medicine for Good Health!

If you feel you've run out of pain control avenues, microcurrent energy may be what you've been missing.

When was the last time that you were pain free? When you didn’t have a headache, low back pain or even a joint or muscle ache? According to Statistics Canadaroughly 27 % of seniors living at home and up to 38 % of those living in health-care institutions have chronic disabling pain, with rates higher for women than for men.

I officially became a senior last year and I’m blessed to be 100% pain free and healthy. Not that I have always been that way. I’ve had my share of sports injuries and pain issues but found good manual therapists that kept me mobile and active. Like many of us, I don’t always exercise or eat the most nutritional foods, but I am very active in skiing, golf and paddle boarding which helps keep me in good physical shape. When sports injuries happen, I recover quickly.

Being involved in the pain management business for almost 30 years, I have been fortunate to have worked with many pain/health management specialists across North America who understood how to find the “cause” for pain and health issues, as opposed to treating the symptoms. From gentle manual therapies like Matrix Repatterning®, osteopathy and craniosacral therapy to deeper techniques like chiropractic, ART®, structural integration (Rolfing) massage, reflexology, acupuncture and even homeopathy, they all have their place in the pain management arena.

When friends ask me how they can control their pain when all other avenues have been exhausted, my answer is “energy medicine”. I have trained countless therapists on how to put microcurrent energy into the body to help support there manual skills and accelerate the healing process. The results I’ve witnessed have been nothing short of amazing. Putting electrons/voltage into my body’s wiring infrastructure has allowed me to heal quickly and maintain a pain-free lifestyle.

I was introduced to Dr. Jerry Tennant MD in 2011 and have had the privilege of working with him on this subject. He has helped me better understand how the body works energetically, and why putting electrons into our bodies can be so beneficial. He simply shows people how our muscles and organs are wired together in parallel circuits, and teaches us to become good electricians of the body, to improve health and control pain.

Dr Tennant wrote a book – Healing is Voltage™ – The Handbook (Amazon) and in it he states “We are constantly wearing out our cells and have to replace them. We get new cones in our retina and replace the lining of our gut every 2-3 days. We replace our skin every 6 weeks and our liver every eight weeks. Chronic disease occurs when we lose our ability to make new cells that work”.  His book discusses how that happens and what to do to correct it.

So why is voltage so important in making new cells that work? Simply put, energy is stored in the mitochondria of the cells. In a direct current circuit minus is an electron donor and positive is an electron stealer. Electrons move from (–) to (+).  Generally healthy tissues rest at -35 millivolts of electron donor status. We need voltage and raw materials to make new cells. When we injure ourselves that voltage goes up to -50 millivolts to replace damaged cells. If there is an infection in any other part of the body the healing voltages are directed to that electron stealer leaving the injury deficient in voltage resulting in a chronic condition of less than -15 millivolts. A dental infection or surgical scar, for example, is an electron stealer and can cut off the electrons flowing through that organ’s acupuncture wiring system.

There are many natural ways to put electrons into the body including touching the earth, moving water with your bare feet, drinking alkaline ground water, eating uncooked unprocessed foods, sunshine, touching a person or pet, and exercise. All these create electrons that are stored in the cells of the muscle battery packs. Unfortunately, we don’t always have these electron donors available to us, but we can turn to microcurrent devices to support our lifetime requirement for electrons like Dr. Tennant uses in his Integrative Health clinic.

When discussing pain management and many health issues, Dr. Tennant talks about the “fight or flight” syndrome. Symptoms may include poor sleep, moodiness, poor digestion and tension, muscles are tight.  Your head is tipped one way, the shoulders and the hips the other.   Dr. Tennant’s treatment protocol for these conditions is to stimulate a point on both sides of the neck putting voltage into the trapezius muscle, the battery pack for the sphenoid bone located in our skull. This therapy helps to reset the sphenoid bone turning on the parasympathetic nervous system thus improving sleep, digestion, rebalances the flexor/extensor muscles and our body’s alignment under the skull. Many clients with chronic pain can realize significant changes after this two-minute therapy, and I do this simple technique several times a week to keep me in balance and sleeping well.

There’s a lot to be shared about this subject on energy medicine and how it can be used to maintain good health. To learn more, I recommend “Healing is Voltage™ as a good starting point. I will be sharing excerpts from Dr. Tennant’s book on the benefits of energetic medicine.
